Take time to enjoy the moment. All to often as we grow older we forget not just the meaning of Christmas, but we also forget to take stock of our blessings. Even if we have nothing else, we have each other. That makes each of us wealthy and blessed indeed.

 Anneewakee was a residential treatment center for troubled teens that was founded in the early 60s. One of the first and at the time most successful wilderness treatment programs in the country. Anneewakee boasted a better than 80% success rate for the young men and ladies that completed the program.
In it's peak, Anneewakee had a campus for boys in Douglasville, GA, a campus for girls near Rockmart, Ga, and another campus for boys near Carabelle, Fla.
Anneewakee closed in the mid 80s amid allegations of Child abuse. With allegations and charges against the founder and many of the staff ranging from sexual abuse of the children, to violations of child labor laws, it became clear that Anneewakee's dirty secrets became fodder for local news in the Atlanta area.
Anneewakee was plagued by the allegations, and ultimately criminal charges were filed, plea bargains were accepted, and some people served time. Anneewakee as a treatment center could not survive the scandals. Licenses were pulled, insurance companies who were a cash cow for the center began refusing to cover the children there, and in time Anneewakee was shut down.
So why do we find it necessary to open a web site for Anneewakee? This is not to glorify what happened, this is a place where the former students, many of whom consider themselves survivors can join together.
Thoughts of my time at Anneewakee, brings forth thoughts of pleasure and pain. I allow my mind to drift to a place in time that was both savior and tormentor. I try not to think of the terrible things that went wrong with the Land of the Friendly People, instead when winds of the past blow I try to remember… that which was good.

 If you are a former student at Anneewakee, feel free to register for access to the private areas. The private forum, over 300 photos, scans of the newsletter, lots of documents are already online... and more is coming!
Please keep checking back. Since we just came back online, I will be adding more and more, plus as word gets around that this is back open, more and more people will register!

- Preparations have begun for the implementation of the Community Builder module which will help members connect and keep others updated. This will also open the doors for the possibility of some very interesting modules. More information on all this will be available soon.
NEW 12/19/08:
- New look launched. Hopefully visitors will find this new look is a little cleaner, brighter and more inviting.
NEW 11/22/08:
- Two weeks of system maintenance, upgrades and base code changes culminated in a day long shutdown of the entire site. All work is complete and we are back online. Thank you for your patience!
NEW 05/05/08:
- The long awaited transcripts are now available. Registered users have access.
NEW 04/04/08:
- Complete re-install and re-migration of the Forum
- Updated all user accounts in the forum
NEW 04/01/08:
- Fixed minor issues after server migration
- Finally got the document manager back online
